How we check companies

How does a company get on this list?

It has to be on PA DEP's own list of certified radon companies. We read DEP's certified mitigator and tester lists, and every company on them that serves York County, or is based in a county next to it, goes on this site. No company can pay to be added, and none is left off for any reason except the ones below.

How do we decide who serves York County?

• Serves York County: DEP lists the company's address in York County, or the company's own website says it works here.
• Next door, confirm they cover you: DEP lists the company in a county that borders York County (Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin or Lancaster) or in Maryland. They may work here, but we haven't seen them say so. Ask before you book.
• Companies further away are not listed.

The bordering counties come from the US Census Bureau's county adjacency file.

Where does each fact come from?

• Certification numbers: PA DEP's certified lists. Each listing shows the month we read them.
• Phone and address: PA DEP's list. Where a company has a Google listing, its Google phone number shows instead.
• Website: only kept when the website shows the same phone number DEP has for the company, so we know it's theirs.
• Services, towns, warranties and other details: found on the company's own website, then checked and approved by a person before they appear.
• Google ratings, reviews, hours and maps: loaded live from Google each time you open a page. We don't store or edit them, and we don't pick which reviews you see.

What order are companies in?

A to Z. There are no "top rated" badges and no paid placements. Nobody pays to be listed, and nobody pays to be higher up.

What don't we check?

We don't check the quality of a company's work, its prices, or its insurance. Always ask for proof of insurance and a written quote, and check the certification yourself on PA DEP's Radon Services Directory.

What if something is wrong?

Tell us and we'll check it against DEP's list or the company's own website. We only change a listing when a source shows the change.
